Okay I’m currently furious that migraines are often so blindly easy to treat and I had to find this out myself at the age of 26 when I’ve been to a neurologist since I was 11 lol so I’m about to teach you two neat and fast little tricks to deal with pain!

The first is the sternocleidomastoid muscle, or the SCM muscle.

image

This big red section is responsible for pain around the eye, cheekbone, and jaw, as well as some temple pain. Literally all you have to do is angle your head down a little, angle it away from the side that hurts, and then you can gently pinch and rub that muscle. I find it best to start at the bottom and travel upwards. The relief is so immediate! You can increase pressure as you feel comfortable doing so.

Here is a short and easy video showing this in action

The second is a fast and easy stretch that soothes your vagus nerve, which is the nerve responsible for calming you down. The vagus nerve, for those unfamiliar, is stimulated by deep breathing such as yawning, sighing, singing, or taking a deep breath to calm your anger in a tense situation.

You can stretch this out by sitting up as straight as possible (this does not have to be perfect to work) and interlacing your fingers. Put your hands on the back of your head with your thumbs going down the sides of your neck and, while keeping your face forward, look all the way to one side with just your eyes. Hold that until you feel the urge to breathe deeply or yawn, or until you can tell there’s a change. Then do the same thing on the other side. When you put your arms down, you should clearly be able to turn your head farther in both directions. If the first session doesn’t get rid of your migraine, rest and repeat as many times as necessary. I even get a little fancy with it and roll my eyes up and down along the outer edge sometimes to stretch as much as I can.

If you need a visual here’s a good video on it. I know some of the language they use seems questionable but this is real and simple science and should not be discarded because it’s been adopted by the trendy wellness crowd!

I seriously cannot believe I didn’t hear a word of this from any doctor in my life. Additionally, if you get frequent recurring migraines, you may want to see a dietician. Migraines can be caused by foods containing histamines, lectin, etc. and can also be caused by high blood pressure in specific situations such as exercise, stress, and even sex.

If any of this information helps you I’d love to hear it btw! It’s so so fast and easy to do. Good luck!

Are you fucking shitting me it works!?

@thebibliosphere I don't know if it'll help, but it may be worth looking into.

This is something my magic physio man also taught me. It helps if your migraines are triggered by muscle tension. Not so much if you have other root causes like OP mentioned above.

liberals really act like the average voter has more power than the president of the united states who could do a ton of things if he actually wanted to

sapropel

Liberals are like “GET OUT THERE and VOTE!!!! For the guy!!!” And when you vote for the guy and he gets elected and doesn’t do anything they’re like “👉👈 umm… he’s just shy”

He’s not even doing nothing though - the number of people held in ICE detention has increased by 70% since Biden took office, the federal prison population has grown for the first time in a decade, and he campaigned on being pro-union but he’s busting the rail union strike…and he just passed a $777,700,000,000 military budget while we’re facing record domestic poverty.

He’s actively doing severely bad things.

Hey friends, really fun that I’m seeing this on my dash right before midterms where tons of abortion bans are on the ballot, as well as tons of anti-trans legislation.

I thought we were past this shitty nihilist black pill approach to voting, but apparently not. Unless you guys have a concrete plan to oust every single elected official from office tomorrow and bring free healthcare to the masses, this sort of rhetoric is at best, very out of touch, and at worst, putting people in danger. Right now the Republican party is full of conspiratorial religious bigots who want to pass legislation to kick people out of their homes, restrict life saving healthcare, police sex and gender identity, and destroy BIPOC communities. There are actual not even shy about it white supremacists on the ballot this year. Just take a look at this list of all of the extremists running. These absolute scumbags run amok when no one is paying attention, and they are the people who would love it if leftists stayed home and didn’t vote.

I’m so frustrated with this rhetoric of; “Well the democrats haven’t fixed America yet so it doesn’t matter if actual white supremacists and religious extremists who believe the earth is flat take over the Senate.” You’re making change actively harder for everyone at every level.

If you do not show up and vote, it is an endorsement of the worst candidate in the ballot. It’s the same as saying you don’t give a shit about the potential damage that could be done by a Nazi in office.

If you hate Biden, by all means, keep hating. If you want to criticize his policies, keep it up. If you think the democratic party right now is a bunch of wet noodles, cool, we can have that discussion. But when you talk about how voting doesn’t matter, you’re holding the door open for extremists who are actively trying to put Trump back in office whether he wins democratically or not.

If you think we need to do more than vote in order to make substantial change, I agree wholeheartedly! But there’s no call to action in this post, just people undermining the vote.

I have no patience for it anymore. If you care about the people in this country at all, show up and vote.

ANYBODY WHO TRIES TO CONVINCE YOU, FOR ANY REASON, NOT TO VOTE, IS TRYING TO SUPPRESS YOUR VOTE.

Politics often makes infuriatingly incremental progress - until a pen stroke wipes it all out. So what has Biden done for us? What have the Democrats in the House and the Senate done for us the last two years? And why might you want to vote (and I’d recommend voting Democrat) in the upcoming U.S. midterm elections?

- Got the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed. This not only will address a ton of backlogged vital repairs for our bridges and roads, but it also directs funding to electric vehicle charging stations (key if we want to transition away from a fossil-fuel based fleet), and also invested in bringing more reliable broadband internet to rural areas (guys… 42 million Americans don’t have reliable access to internet). It also provides funding for communities to invest in infrastructure that will make them more resilient to climate change.

- Reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act (through 2027). Personally, I think working to combat gender-based violence is a good thing. This reauthorization contained some great provisions, including granting Tribal court jurisdiction to cover non-Tribal perpetrators who commit these crimes on Tribal land, increasing support for LGBTQA+ communities, and establishing a Federal office and pathway for civil cases where your pictures/videos are circulated online without your permission

- Passed the Inflation Reduction Act, which caps healthcare costs for those on Medicare (including a cap on insulin at $35/month), provides tax incentives for clean energy (including residential solar, EVs, or other energy efficient home appliances), and some provisions to provide enforcement support to identify those who are not properly paying their taxes among wealthier Americans (over $400,000/year in income) and companies. It also imposed a tax on stock buybacks, which should theoretically incentivize companies to invest profits into their companies rather than shareholders/CEOs.

- Rejoined the Paris Agreement and international negotiations to combat climate change. Congress also authorized the Kigali Amendment to phase out HFCs (which have a much higher global warming potential than CO2)

- Student loan relief via Executive Office action. Is it the same dollar value Biden promised in his campaign? No. But I’ll take $10K over $0K any day.

- Took Executive Action to pardon Americans convicted (in the Federal system) of marijuana possession. The House has passed the MORE Act in 2020 and 2022 (to decriminalize possession), but the Senate hasn’t taken action (yet?) so no movement on broader changes to the legal system that would make this type of action unnecessary in the future.

- Took Executive Action to instruct the Food and Drug Administration to make hearing aids available over the counter without a prescription. Government estimates think this could bring the price down by $3,000. They’re either now (or will be soon) available at major retailers, including CVS, Walmart, Walgreen, Hy-Vee, and Best Buy.

And hey - if you hate all of these things, if you think that they are terrible for the country? You should vote too.

I think we're all missing the far more exciting story of "the creator of Veggie Tales is kind of based, actually." Now I can have "Where Is My Hairbrush" stuck in my head guilt free!

Phil Vischer has been the subject of rage and loathing by the Evangelical Right for a while now, and it's pretty horrifying. They've accused him of being a "child groomer" and everything.

Chaos of Catan

uselessravenclaw

so when i was in college, my friends and i had a slightly alternate version of settlers of catan. it started by accident, but it made the game a LOT more interesting.

basically everything’s the same, except that when you move the thief, you also move the number tile on the hexagon. so the thief starts in the desert, say you move it to a hexagon with a 6 tile. that 6 tile now goes to the desert. say then you move the thief to a 4 tile. that 4 tile now moves to the hexagon the thief came from. thief goes to the 12, that 12 goes to where the 4 was.

it meant that just because you got a good starting plot didn’t mean you won. It also meant that the game involved a lot more alliances and bribery– “i’ll give you two sheep if you don’t move my 8 tile” –which got fucking crazy. people exchanged literal money. people offered to do chores. people would say shit like “if you move it onto his tile instead of mine, i’ll give you full access to my 3:1 port.” “i’ll buy you ice cream for a week if you get me that 8.”

it was freaking insane. and it was epic. now that i’m out of college, people refuse to play this version with me. i’m surrounded by cowards.
